Vancouver Christmas Market

>> Sunday, November 28, 2010

Opening today in Vancouver was the German inspired Christmas Market. After a fire broke out on the original opening date of November 24, workers tirelessly repaired the damage, and the market opened to enthusiastic crowds and good weather. The market is open every day until December 24th.

Not surprisingly, we focused on the food-related vendors. We were happy to see Plöger Delikatessen among them.

Black Forest Meat & Sausages was immensely popular, and even with two booths, the long queues never diminished while we were there.

It's amazing how many people will let you take photographs of their food before they even take a bite!

There was beer, but unlike a German biergarten, patrons are restricted to three drinks per person per day (!).

There were other non-beer alcoholic choices, like feuerzangenbowle, a mulled wine and rum punch.

Of course, what would a Christmas market be without sweets?

There was a tent that had four children's activities, two of which revolved around food, gingerbread decorating,

and chocolate lollipop decorating!

There was also plenty to see from a non-food perspective.

The Vancouver Christmas Market website states that most of the vendors accept cash only, and we found that to be the case. Finally, for those of you who made it to the end of our post, we offer this tip. Of the two entrances, the one on Cambie Street had a much shorter queue.
