Savary Island Pie Company

>> Tuesday, November 9, 2010

I don't remember when we first had a Savary Island pie, but it was at least five years ago, when we frequented Ambleside Village. Nowadays, we get our lemon buttermilk berry pie fix from Stong's. Last month, however, we were in West Vancouver again, and I dropped in to the bakery.

Besides their famous pies, Savary Island Pie also bakes a large selection of breads,

and they make their own preserves ...

and salad dressings.

You can also order soups, sandwiches and more. It can get very busy, especially on weekend mornings.

While all the pies we've tried have been very good,...

our favourite is the lemon buttermilk with berries. We took a piece home.

For those wondering about the name, the bakery is named after a small island in the Strait of Georgia. Savary Island, famous for its white sandy beaches, is about 20 km northwest of Powell River, on British Columbia's Sunshine Coast.
