Native to Nice

>> Wednesday, October 13, 2010

Though we've been to France a few times before, this was our first visit to the lovely seaside city of Nice, and to its fabulous museums, namely the Musée Matisse, the Musée Chagall, and the Musée des Beaux-Arts.

We were also thrilled to taste some of the local treats besides the famous salade niçoise.

One of the local favourites is a must-stop for ice cream lovers, Glacier Fenocchio.

Good thing I didn't want 16 scoops!
For lunch, we grabbed two traditional Niçois dishes, socca, a chickpea pancake,

 and farcis, stuffed vegetables.

One of the more overwhelmingly touristy stretches is the bustling stretch of Cours Saleya, where you can find restaurant after restaurant with boisterous hosts out front trying to reel you into their restaurant, be it seafood or Italian.

Though not a horrible experience, I was forced to wait in my quest to expand my gastronomic horizons.

We were delighted to discover that our hotel, with a patio overlooking Rue Des Anglais, was a true haven for coffees, spot-on drinks, and fancy ice cream sundaes!

Ah, Nice, pretty, pretty Nice. We had originally planned to stay longer, but Paris was beckoning, and the TGV was happy to oblige.
