Those who have been following our blog know that we like sweets. No, we really, really like sweets. So we have some nicely ripe bananas ready to be eaten. What was our first thought? If you guessed "drizzle them with honey and sprinkle with toasted wheat germ," you would be right. Our second thought, though, was "coat them with melted chocolate and roll them in sprinkles."
Start with bananas you would be happy to eat all by themselves. If you can't conclude what level of ripeness you would like to eat, perhaps you should instead be making chocolate covered strawberries, chocolate covered gummy bears or chocolate covered bacon.
When we were writing the title of this post, we contemplated calling it "Chocolate Covered Bananas with Jimmies," but we realized that (a) most everyone wouldn't know what
jimmies were, and (b) jimmies are usually chocolate flavoured.
Melt the chocolate over a double boiler or
equivalent, to avoid scorching the chocolate.
Cut up the banana into bite-size pieces. Don't do this ahead of time unless you like your banana pieces to end up brownish. Using a skewer, chopstick, or anything sharp with enough friction, swirl the banana piece in the melted chocolate.
Once the piece is fully coated, rotate it over the bowl for about twenty seconds until the chocolate is even and less drippy.
Roll carefully in the sprinkles until there are no bare patches left.
