After our successful night at L'Abattoir, we were in a cocktail mood. The Lobby Lounge at the Fairmont Pacific Rim was the perfect choice.
Of course, at any proper bar or lounge, you can order any cocktail, but it's nice when there's a menu to help those of us who either have limited knowledge of mixed drinks, or who want a little inspiration to try something new.
We weren't trying to be difficult, but we ended up challenging our server with our inarticulate description of the type of drink we wanted. Unfazed, she offered a few suggestions and we decided on the Scratched Sidecar, which is basically a sidecar with orange egg-white crema.

sauces for the seafood tower |
The seafood tower came with two different kinds of raw oyster, prawns and a half lobster. Since moving to west coast, I've had limited opportunity to eat lobster, and this was indeed a special treat.

The recorded music played during most of our time there was a delicious jazz mix of new artists and old standards, just like we often play at home. Shortly after nine o'clock, the live piano began. Yes, in a post-PC world we're not supposed to notice things like this, but we liked how the piano player was chosen based on his ability and not on his looks. No disrespect intended, but the older gentleman wouldn't be mistaken for a young Oscar Peterson. His talented playing style was reminiscent of Vince Guaraldi.
Our server, learning of our mission, even checked the hours of Bella Gelato and assured us that we would make it before it closed. We reluctantly wrapped up our evening, and bid farewell to an immensely satisfying visit.
